After 2 weeks of being in London, last night my phone finally decided to set itself to GMT. Great, wonderful, it's about time (pun intended). Problem is, I had gotten into the habit of setting the alarm 5 hours earlier than GMT to account for the fact that it was still living on EDT. So this morning, at 1:00 am GMT, my alarm went off. Thinking it was 6:00 am GMT, I hopped in the shower and got ready for the day. I then proceeded down to the club lounge for breakfast, only to find it locked. Hmm, no lights either. That's interesting. The sign says it opens at 6:30 am, and it's 6:40. I'd better go ask the front desk. The following conversation ensued:
Me: Good morning, I was just upstairs and the club lounge isn't open, and I don't see anyone inside. I thought it opened at 6:30?
Lady: Well, it does sir, but it's presently a quarter to two in the morning.
Wicked lame. Luckily I asked, because I was ready to head outside and catch the bus to work. I would have been that guy: the first dude into work. Everyone knows this guy. He usually lives 127 miles from work. He wakes up at 3 am to be at work by 4:30 and leaves shortly after lunch. He's been doing it for 12 years and has a failing marriage and his kids resent him. He typically drinks 19 cups of coffee a day, and will rip your heart out if you even utter the word "decaf". This man does not attend work social events, lest he get stuck in traffic, and is generally the most crusty and beat down person you'll ever meet.
On a more positive note, I signed today for the apartment near Baron's Court. The other unit I was considering was unfurnished, and I didn't really want to buy or rent more furniture (my basement currently has 3 queen size beds collecting dust and housing who knows what kind of critters). The move in date is next week, and it should be ready for visitors shortly thereafter.
